Miriat Nakanaabi, the woman who touched the hearts of many Ugandans after a heartbreaking video of her and her son went viral following the Lubigi wetland evictions, has received support from media personality Mamideb.

Ms. Nakanaabi, 42, became the center of public attention after a video showed her attempting to run into oncoming traffic in apparent despair while her young son desperately cried and fought to stop her. The emotional incident happened shortly after NEMA’s demolition exercise in Lubigi, which left many families displaced.

Speaking about her ordeal, she revealed that she is a single mother of six who depended entirely on her small businesses for survival. The single mother had reportedly returned from Kalerwe Market only to find her restaurant property destroyed and seven rental houses, which were her main source of income, demolished.

The devastating loss left her feeling helpless and hopeless about the future of her children.

However, there was a ray of hope for this mother during the fourth edition of the #LetsTalkWithMamideb show. Mamideb invited her to the event and offered her a cash gift of Shs1 million to help her get back on her feet.

The generosity did not stop there. Moved by her story, several attendees at the event also contributed money towards supporting her and her family. The donations were aimed at helping her rebuild her livelihood and regain stability after the traumatic experience.

In another heartwarming gesture, the owner of Theatre La Bonita pledged to take care of the education of Nakanaabi’s son—the same boy whose emotional efforts to save his mother captured the attention of the nation.

The support extended to Nakanaabi was met with praise from many people who commended Mamideb and the well-wishers for stepping in during one of the most difficult moments of her life.

For Miriat and her children, the assistance offers renewed hope and a chance to start over after losing nearly everything in the Lubigi evictions.
