Veteran Kadongo Kamu singer Mathias Walukagga has opened up about the disappointment of missing out on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket for Busiro East Member of Parliament, saying the experience left him “really sad and angry.”

Speaking about the events leading up to the 2026 General Election, Walukagga claimed his candidature was unfairly blocked through political maneuvering involving former Speaker Anita Among, former Busiro East MP Medard Sseggona, and other local political interests.
“I was really sad and angry because I believed I deserved the NUP flag. They thought removing me would make it easier for someone else to win.”
According to Walukagga, those he believes orchestrated his exit expected then-incumbent MP Medard Sseggona to cruise to victory. However, the seat was eventually won by Emmanuel Magoola, proving, in his view, that their plan backfired.

Despite the setback, Walukagga says he never allowed the disappointment to consume him because music has always remained his true calling.
“Music is my calling. I refused to sink into depression because I knew I still had something meaningful to do.”
The singer also dismissed critics who question his command of English, insisting he has studied the language since nursery school and is fluent in it.
In addition, Walukagga revealed that he has since earned a degree in Public Administration, a milestone he believes has better prepared him for future leadership.
Although his first attempt at parliamentary elective politics ended in disappointment, the celebrated musician says he has not abandoned his political ambitions and intends to return when the time is right, armed with more experience, education and determination.
