Uganda’s coffee industry is increasingly being shaped by young entrepreneurs who are combining practical farming experience with innovation, education, and digital technology. Among those making an impact is Mwanje Vicent, a coffee farmer, agricultural consultant, and digital educator who is helping transform how farmers approach coffee production and agribusiness.

Born on 15 February 2000, Mwanje Vicent has spent years building his expertise in coffee farming, earning recognition for his hands-on approach and commitment to empowering fellow farmers. While many young people pursue careers in urban industries, he has chosen to invest in agriculture, demonstrating that farming can be both a profitable business and a catalyst for economic growth.

Over the years, his work has evolved from managing coffee plantations to advising farmers, training producer groups, and promoting modern farming practices across Uganda. His ability to combine practical field experience with digital education has made him one of the country’s emerging young voices in agriculture.

From the coffee farm to agricultural consultancy

Unlike many agricultural commentators who rely largely on theory, Mwanje Vicent’s knowledge comes from years of working directly in coffee fields. His experience spans coffee establishment, soil fertility management, pruning, pest and disease control, harvesting, and post-harvest handling.

This practical background has shaped his approach to agricultural extension. Rather than promoting expensive or complicated solutions, he focuses on simple, practical methods that farmers can easily adopt using locally available resources. His advice is aimed at increasing productivity, improving coffee quality, and ensuring sustainable farming practices.

Today, many farmers look to him for guidance on improving yields while building profitable coffee enterprises.

Using digital platforms to educate farmers

One of the defining features of Mwanje Vicent’s work is his use of social media to make agricultural knowledge more accessible. Through educational videos, farm demonstrations, and interactive content, he reaches thousands of farmers and aspiring agripreneurs who may not have access to traditional extension services.

His content, particularly on TikTok, simplifies technical farming concepts and presents them in a practical and engaging way. By showcasing real farming activities instead of relying solely on classroom-style teaching, he has helped spark greater interest in agriculture among Uganda’s youth.

His digital outreach reflects a growing shift in agricultural education, where online platforms are becoming valuable tools for sharing knowledge and connecting farming communities.

Building a business around coffee

Beyond training and education, Mwanje Vicent is the founder of M Vicent Coffee and Company Limited, a business dedicated to coffee farming and agricultural support services.

Based in Bunamwaya, near Stabex Petrol Station in Kampala, the company supplies agricultural inputs while offering technical support to coffee growers. Farmers regularly seek advice on plantation establishment, fertiliser application, irrigation, pest and disease management, and harvesting practices.

By combining commercial services with agricultural expertise, the company has become a valuable resource for coffee farmers seeking to improve both production and profitability.

Expanding his impact across East Africa

Although Uganda remains the centre of his work, Mwanje Vicent has also collaborated with farmers in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, and Tanzania.

These engagements have allowed him to exchange knowledge, understand different farming environments, and promote regional collaboration within East Africa’s coffee sector. Such experiences continue to broaden his understanding of the industry while strengthening networks among coffee-producing communities across the region.

Investing in the future of coffee farming

Among his long-term ambitions is establishing a Coffee Academy, an initiative designed to equip future coffee professionals with practical skills and modern agribusiness knowledge.

The proposed academy would provide training in coffee production, plantation management, quality control, value addition, and entrepreneurship, helping prepare a new generation of skilled coffee farmers and industry professionals.

As coffee remains one of Uganda’s leading export commodities, initiatives focused on practical training could play a significant role in strengthening the country’s agricultural workforce.

Taking Ugandan coffee to the global stage

Mwanje Vicent is also preparing to participate in an international coffee exhibition in Dubai, an opportunity that will connect him with buyers, exporters, investors, researchers, and technology providers from around the world.

International exhibitions provide valuable exposure to emerging market trends, quality standards, and innovations that can be adapted to Uganda’s coffee sector. They also create opportunities for partnerships that support the growth of African coffee businesses in global markets.

Giving back to the community

Away from farming, Mwanje Vicent has also been involved in community outreach initiatives aimed at supporting vulnerable individuals and promoting social responsibility.

One of his widely recognised acts of generosity involved assisting a veteran Ugandan film actor during a difficult period, reflecting his belief that success should also create positive change within the community.

Shaping the future of Ugandan agriculture

At just 26 years old, Mwanje Vicent is part of a new generation redefining agriculture in Uganda. Through coffee farming, entrepreneurship, digital education, and regional collaboration, he is demonstrating that modern agriculture offers opportunities far beyond traditional farming.

As Uganda continues to strengthen its position as one of Africa’s leading coffee producers, young professionals like Mwanje Vicent are helping shape the future of the industry by combining practical knowledge, innovation, and a commitment to empowering fellow farmers.
