Popular Ugandan deejay and Galaxy FM presenter DJ Nimrod, real name Nimrod Nabeeta, has opened up about why he rarely considers women his close friends, arguing that friendship between men and women can easily become complicated.

Nimrod said that, in his experience, a woman may remain a “friend” largely because he has not yet made a move on her, suggesting that intimacy can eventually become a possibility.

He explained that the situation becomes even more complicated when male and female friends have to share accommodation during work trips. Using the example of travelling to places such as Jinja, Nimrod said staying together for several days could eventually blur the boundaries of friendship.

“You are only my female friend because I haven’t bedded you, but the goal is always to.”

He further claimed that he has previously shared a bed with female friends without anything happening, but said this was usually because he deliberately chose not to pursue anything at the time.

According to Nimrod, there could be different reasons for holding back, including wanting to build the woman’s trust before making a move.

“I have slept in the same bed with women who are my friends and nothing happened, but it was because I didn’t want anything to happen.”

The DJ’s comments have since sparked debate about whether genuine platonic friendships between men and women can exist.

Some people agreed with Nimrod’s view that one person may secretly have romantic or sexual intentions, while others disagreed, saying they have maintained close friendships with people of the opposite sex for many years without crossing that line.

Nimrod, who has been a prominent voice on Uganda’s radio and entertainment scene for years, is known for his outspoken views on relationships and dating.
