Ugandan singer Winnie Nwagi has questioned why women, particularly female celebrities, are constantly expected to discuss men and relationships whenever they sit down for media interviews.

Speaking in an interview with Spark TV, the Matala singer expressed frustration with the tendency of interviewers to bring up relationship matters, arguing that a woman’s life and ambitions should not always revolve around finding a man.
Nwagi noted that while relationships are part of life, they should not be treated as the ultimate achievement for every woman. She explained that she currently has several personal and professional ambitions that deserve her attention, with marriage not necessarily taking centre stage.
“Every time, in every interview, a man is always brought up. Why is it always about men?” the singer wondered, challenging the assumption that every woman’s happiness or success must be tied to a relationship.

She further emphasised that although men are part of the equation, they are not her biggest priority at the moment.
“I have so many other things that I am chasing. A man is not my ultimate priority,” Nwagi added.
Asked whether she sees herself having a wedding in the future, the singer left the matter in God’s hands, suggesting that some things in life cannot be forced or dictated by public expectations.
According to Nwagi, marriage is ultimately a matter of God’s timing, and until that decision is made, conversations about it remain just that — conversations.
The singer is already a mother to a daughter, Mirembe Destiny, from a previous relationship. She has also largely kept her current relationship away from the public spotlight, a move that has continued to fuel curiosity about her private life.
However, her latest remarks appear to reinforce her position that there is more to a woman’s life than her relationship status, particularly for women pursuing personal growth, careers and other ambitions.
