Ugandan music star Cindy Sanyu has celebrated the growing culture of local artists filling some of the country’s biggest entertainment venues, describing it as a major milestone for the industry.

Cindy noted that the Ugandan music scene has come a long way, with artists now confidently booking and filling venues that were once largely associated with international performers.

Her comments come at a time when several Ugandan artists have successfully packed the Kololo Independence Grounds, with Eddy Kenzo, Ray G, and the highly anticipated Cindy Vs Sheebah music battle all drawing massive crowds. King Saha has also joined the growing list of artists who have filled Kololo Grounds, further cementing the venue as a viable destination for major local concerts.

Reflecting on how much the industry has changed, Cindy recalled that Africana Hotel was once considered one of the biggest venues for artists performing in Kampala.

“Back in the day, we used to see Africana Hotel as the biggest uptown venue and we had even left it for international artists like UB40,” she explained.

According to Cindy, the situation has now changed significantly, with Ugandan musicians able to attract audiences to venues such as Africana Hotel, Lugogo Grounds and, increasingly, Kololo Independence Grounds.

She expressed gratitude to Ugandans for embracing and supporting local music, saying this continued support has played a major role in pushing the entertainment industry forward.

“Next you know, we will be performing in Namboole stadium as an Ugandan artist,” she said.

Cindy further noted that supporting Ugandan artists goes beyond entertainment, arguing that a thriving local music industry contributes to the country’s broader economy through taxes, employment and service delivery.

She therefore thanked Ugandans for continuing to show up for local musicians and helping take the country’s entertainment industry to the next level.
