Western Uganda’s music powerhouse Ray G has been labelled the most expensive musician in Uganda at the moment by prominent events promoter Abtex Promotions.

The claim comes after Ray G’s highly attended concert at Kololo Independence Grounds over the weekend, an event that attracted fans from across the country and sparked widespread praise, with some revellers describing it as one of the biggest concerts ever held at the venue.

Speaking during a radio interview, Abtex revealed that he initially struggled to understand Ray G’s asking price when the singer’s team approached him.

According to the promoter, the amount was so high that his first reaction was to dismiss the request and send the singer away.

However, Abtex said he later took time to study Ray G’s career trajectory, including his clashes with fellow musician Azawi, his concert at Lugogo Cricket Oval, the Kacheka events and other major moments that had shaped the singer’s rise.

“I looked at what Ray G had been doing, from the Azawi clash to Lugogo Cricket Oval, Kakyeka and what happened at Nkuka. I realised there was something about this artist.”

Abtex said he eventually returned to Ray G and agreed to pay the amount he had initially considered unreasonable.

He explained that Ray G understood his strategy as a promoter, while he also understood what the singer was capable of delivering once they reached an agreement.

“He knew my strategy, and when we agreed, I started doing my job and he also started doing his job.”

The promoter, however, declined to reveal exactly how much Ray G demanded, saying the figure remains a private matter between him and the singer’s management.

Abtex went on to describe Ray G as “the most expensive musician in Uganda at the current time,” insisting that, based on his experience in the entertainment industry, no other artist currently matches the singer’s asking price.

Ray G’s successful Kololo concert has now added another major milestone to the Western Ugandan star’s growing profile, further strengthening his reputation as one of the country’s biggest live performers.
