Kalifah AgaNaga has come out strongly to address comparisons between him and rising star Kapeke, saying the debate is disrespectful and ignores his legacy in the music industry.

Speaking during an interview, Kalifah dismissed any suggestion that he and Kapeke are on the same level, despite similarities in branding, style, and hit songs. While acknowledging Kapeke’s talent, Kalifah insisted the young singer should instead be measured against his contemporaries like Alien Skin and Biswanka.

“I’m not on the same level with Kapeke. He’s a good artist, but comparing him to me feels like an insult. He should be compared to artists of his generation like Alien Skin and Biswanka.”

Kalifah went on to argue that his career peak came during one of the most competitive eras in Ugandan music, when industry heavyweights were at their best. He pointed out that he rose to prominence while stars like Bobi Wine, Bebe Cool, David Lutalo, Aziz Azion, and the duo Goodlyfe Crew were dominating the scene.

According to him, he not only held his own but disrupted the dominance of the so-called “big three” at the time, even headlining shows for some of the biggest names in the industry.

“I performed when the biggest artists were in their prime. I even headlined shows for them. That alone shows I was competing at the highest level.”

The “Nasanga” hitmaker also highlighted his catalogue of songs, including “Nasanga,” “Ndabirawa,” and “Oyitangayo,” as proof of his impact during that era. Beyond music, he emphasized his achievements in life, noting that he has attained the success many artists aspire to, including property and financial stability.

Kalifah further stated that his influence extends beyond performing, pointing to his work as a producer and mentor, having supported and developed several artists over the years.

He concluded by asserting that he deserves recognition as one of the standout figures of his generation and called for more respect to be placed on his name.
