  • Mildred Tuhaise said she left television after 20 years, describing her exit as taking a “commercial break” after a long career.
  • She revealed that balancing television work with motherhood was challenging, as her children rarely got to spend enough time with her.
  • The former TV presenter said she decided to step away to rest and be more present for her husband and young children.

Veteran media personality Mildred Tuhaise has opened up about the reason behind her decision to step away from the television industry after two decades, saying she felt it was finally time to prioritize her family and take a well-deserved break.

Speaking in a recent interview on Baba TV, Mildred reflected on her 20-year journey in the media industry, which began when she was still a teenager.

“I started as a teen presenter 20 years ago on Top TV, then moved to WBS and then NBS TV,” she recalled.

After spending two decades on television, Mildred said she felt she had reached a point where she needed to pause, comparing her career break to the commercial breaks that interrupt television programs.

“After 20 years, I thought it was best to take a commercial break,” she said with a laugh.

The media personality explained that her decision was largely influenced by her growing family. She revealed that she is now a mother of two, with her eldest child aged six and her youngest one year and three months old.

According to Mildred, the demanding nature of television meant she rarely got enough time with her children. She would leave home before they woke up and often returned after they had already gone to bed, leaving little opportunity to be present during their early years.

She also revealed that she worked throughout both of her pregnancies, only taking time off when it was almost time to give birth.

“I had my first child after working on Friday. As I was going to work on Monday, I wasn’t feeling okay, so I passed by the hospital and they told me I was due,” she shared.

She added that with her second child, she spent the entire day at work before delivering later that night.

Looking back, Mildred said she realized she needed to slow down, not only for herself but also for her family.

“I felt like I needed some time to rest because my kids needed me, plus my husband, even though he had gotten used to my schedule,” she said.

For Mildred, stepping away from television was not about ending her career but about making room for the people who matter most during an important stage of her life.
