Social media influencer and entrepreneur Prima Kardashi has revealed why she left Makula TV shortly after joining the station, putting to rest rumours that she was fired over alleged bad behaviour.

According to Prima, the decision had everything to do with her salary and what she considered an unsustainable working arrangement.

Prima explained that she was initially contacted by the television station and invited for an audition. Before joining, she reportedly told the station that her expected salary was Shs4 million, an amount she says was not rejected during their initial discussions.

However, upon arriving at the station, Prima said she was told that she lacked television experience and would therefore start on Shs1 million per month for three months, after which her performance would be evaluated.

She accepted the arrangement and went to work, but according to her, the situation did not change after the three-month period.

“After three months, they told me they didn’t have money to increase my salary,” Prima said.

She subsequently decided to leave, arguing that the pay did not match the demands placed on her as a public figure and brand owner.

Prima said she could earn the same amount, or more, from home through her businesses without committing to a Monday-to-Friday television schedule.

She also questioned the economics of working for a television station generating revenue while receiving what she considered a small salary.

Addressing claims that she had behavioural problems at the station, Prima said her time there was positive and that her co-hosts Zubeda and Amooti Omubalanguzi enjoyed working with her.

She recalled regularly coming to work with food and bringing what she described as positive energy to the workplace.

Prima maintained that she has a personal brand to protect and cannot accept a salary she believes does not reflect her value, especially while being expected to maintain her appearance and wardrobe for television.
