Ugandan singer Naava Grey has opened up about why she has largely stayed away from conflicts and feuds that have often characterised the local music industry.

Despite spending years in the industry and earning recognition for her music, Naava says she has deliberately chosen a peaceful path, crediting her late parents for instilling humility and discipline in her from an early age.
According to the singer, her parents taught her that humility can open doors while also protecting one’s peace of mind. Although they are no longer alive, Naava says she continues to live by the lessons they left her with.
“They taught me to be humble because humility takes you places and keeps your peace of mind,” she said during an interview with Spark TV.

Naava also dismissed the idea that remaining silent makes someone weak or an easy target. She explained that silence can sometimes be a powerful response, especially when dealing with people who may want to take advantage of you.
“There is commanding silence that scares away people who are trying to take advantage of you.”
The singer was also asked about her love life but maintained that she prefers to keep that part of her life away from public scrutiny. She said if the public is ever meant to know about her relationship, the information will come at the right time.
Naava further clarified speculation surrounding a Mzungu man who appeared in one of her music videos. She explained that he is a singer from Berlin with whom she had an opportunity to collaborate on a song, rather than her romantic partner.
Beyond music, Naava urged parents to return to God, pray for their children and guide them properly, arguing that moving away from God is contributing to many of the problems affecting society.
