Outgoing Makindye West Member of Parliament Allan Ssewanyana has revived his ambitions of contesting for the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) presidency, declaring that he is now better prepared to challenge long-serving football boss Moses Magogo Hassim.

Speaking during a local media interview, Ssewanyana claimed that his previous attempts to challenge Magogo were frustrated through what he described as unfair political maneuvers within football leadership circles.

According to Ssewanyana, when he first attempted to run against Magogo for the FUFA presidency, he was allegedly blocked from fully participating in the race. He also revisited the controversial Kampala Region FUFA elections in which the late Darius Mugoye emerged victorious.

Ssewanyana alleged that before the vote, he had already secured backing from a majority of Uganda Premier League club CEOs and delegates.

“At that time, I had convinced many club leaders and delegates to support me, but the game changed at the last minute,” Ssewanyana said.

He further claimed that once Magogo learned about the growing support behind his bid, key voters were allegedly influenced ahead of the election, swinging the outcome in Mugoye’s favor.

“This time, I understand the system better. Magogo will not even know what has happened when the elections come,” he added.

Despite the criticism often directed at his administration, Magogo remains one of the most successful football administrators in Uganda’s history. He first became FUFA president in 2013 after succeeding Lawrence Mulindwa and has since overseen major developments in Ugandan football.

Under his leadership, the Uganda Cranes ended a 39-year AFCON qualification drought in 2017 before qualifying again in 2019. His administration has also been praised for improving women’s football, upgrading football infrastructure, and helping Uganda secure the successful AFCON 2027 Pamoja bid alongside Kenya and Tanzania.

Magogo was re-elected for another four-year FUFA term running from 2025 to 2029.
